Cover Design

We all know that creating a striking cover is one of the most effective tools for marketing a book. When I worked at Abingdon Press, getting approval for a book cover was one of the most important and stressful hurdles we faced. So when I began thinking about the cover for my own next project, Wind of the Spirit, I ran right into a question that stymied me for a while. How do you illustrate a title like Wind of the Spirit? Well, obviously the cover has to give an impression of what the book’s… Continue

Book 3 Is Finished!!

I finally finished book 3 of my American Patriot Series, Wind of the Spirit, the other day--at least the rough draft. Now I need to do an editing pass before I send it off to my editor. It came in at 101,000+ words, which is right about where I wanted it to be. Dineen Miller is working on the cover art. How do you illustrate a title like Wind of the Spirit??? But I found a terrific photo on istockphoto, and if Dineen can figure out how to do everything with it I want to do, it's g… Continue

New Release!

Have you ever felt like Sisyphus? Condemned to endlessly pushing that huge rock uphill until you get to the top...where it rolls back down? But at least things are moving forward! Amazon finally opened up my latest book, One Holy Night for orders--only a few days late. And now readers can also post reviews. It's also available for pre-order at Barnes and Noble.com, which incorrectly lists it as pubbing April 28. Target.com also has it, and you can also order through Borders.com, which lin… Continue

Greetings!

Welcome to my new Historical Fiction Books blog! As if I didn't have enough to do, a friend directed me to this group, and instead of paring down my to-do list, I'm diving into yet more social networking! LOL! The tools and toys offered by the Internet are neverending. I'm excited to be able to make even more friends on this site and learn more about what others are doing and reading in the field of historical fiction!

Joan,

While I love all this stuff, I should be devoting as much time, and more, to finishing my newest novel and working on another. Sigh.

I went to your website and I love the new look. It's very clean and lovely on the eyes.

Thanks, Joan, for the kind message. I've put up a new blog, too, that has a historical fiction flare.

Hi Joan,

It's easy to change the look of your page. Go to your page and under your picture you will see 'change my theme'. Click that on. The next page will have templates for your page. Click on one you like and scroll down to see it. To the left you will find a little feature to upload a picture that will go at the top. You can go into your own picture files to do that. Easy.

Your books look so interesting. I like reading about the American Independance era.
I'll put them on my wish list.
