China: Today and Yesterday

A long time friend of mine says that the Communist Party in China is evil (there are about seventy million members). I disagreed with that blanket statement, and we had a debate without any resolution. Where he sees only black and white, I see shades of gray.

Certainly Mao acted with evil intent starting with the Great Leap Forward and finishing with the Cultural Revolution, but was China ever completely at peace under any of the Emperors going back to the first Emperor that unified Ch

Lloyd,
You gave an excellent interview on the Doctor Pat show the other day. And I sincerely appreciate you mentioning my upcoming book. Yes, Robert Hart would have been a welcomed traveling companion during my long journey across China. Seems that we shared similar tastes ;)
Where can I get a schedule of yor upcoming broadcasts?
Regards,
Tom Carter

Hi Lloyd,

That's great about the bookplates. I think they are really effective to offer on your website when people buy your book. That way they can request a signed bookplate by you and that way their book will be signed.

I use Avery's large shipping labels to make mine. That way the are self-adhesive.

Thank you for the info about Chess.com. Unfortunately, I play only with my wife while we watch/listen to the news. And, being on sites such as this is a luxury because I am in the most difficult stage of writing a historical (a sequel to ROCAMORA) -- APPLYING RESEARCH TO THE STORY WITHOUT OVERDOING IT AND TELLING RATHER THAN SHOWING.

If you or anyone else on this site wish to chat in depth with me, feel free to email me at dmp@donaldmichaelplatt.com

I've played for years -- decades actually and I've lost more than I've won. I enjoy the game. The reason I mentioned it is because I belong to a local chess club in the town where I live and I also play on chess.com. Have you played at chess.com?

Yes, I do. Why do you ask?
My wife defeats me 60% of the time.

I started researching the life of Robert Hart in 1999. Writing My Splendid Concubine was a journey of discovery that lasted almost nine years. No Westerner has ever acheived Robert Hart's status and level of power in China, but his first real love was Ayaou, a young concubine. My Splendid Concubine is the deeply intimate story of Hart's loyalty and love for his adopted land and the woman who captured his heart.
