Yes, I agree, Emily. Lovers can still love each other. They don't always have to be on high. How tiring if that were so. And books are the same. but I do agree, there has to be hope for the future. Laurel http://laurel6346.tripod.com

Emily asks if romance entails a "happily ever after" ending. Not necessarily. A romance doesn't mean a ribbon-tied, committed relationship with marriage as its goal. But to qualify as a romance, a novel should end on a note of hope. A note might be…

Published Novels
Talk about a Christmas present! My historical romance, THE BAREFOOT QUEEN, has just been released by Highland Press. Set in 17th century Ireland, the tale is about Grace O'Malley, the fictional great granddaughter of historic pirate, Granuaile O'Malley. Grace has inherited Granuaile's wit and courage, but without her fleet of raiding ships, how can she defy the forces out to destroy her people, her family, and Owen, the man she loves above all else?
Favourite Books
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte--all time favorite
The Uses of Enchantment by Bruno Bettelheim--what fairy tales can teach
Gone with the Wind--soap opera power combined with insight into the lives of the defeated South
Early Janet Ivanovich--for sassiness

To Historical Fiction Fans

Just updated my site here, and the change was well overdue. The sequel to THE BAREFOOT QUEEN will be released this spring, title: IN THE LION'S MOUTH. This is a spin-off from the first novel, but both are stand alones. Just revising the third in the series--still searching in my mind and elsewhere, for a title. More on that later. Glad to be back to the site. Cheers and best wishes to all writers and lovers of historical fictionl Slainte! Jean

IT'S OUT!

Hi to my friendly bloggers and soon-to-be friends. I'm so happy the second in my historical romance series has been released. IN THE LION'S MOUTH is out there--Amazon, B & N, and Kindle. If you liked the first, THE BAREFOOT QUEEN, think you might enjoy the sequel. Although I say sequel because the lives of the main characters continue, IN THE LION'S MOUTH is really a stand alone. Anyway, so glad for the interest!

If you write as well, you know the thrill. Having someone read your outpouring… Continue

THE GREAT ROMANCE DEBATE

Emily asks if romance entails a "happily ever after" ending. Not necessarily. A romance doesn't mean a ribbon-tied, committed relationship with marriage as its goal. But to qualify as a romance, a novel should end on a note of hope. A note might be enough, not a complete song, but something that tells the reader happiness is possible in life, and loyalty and love. Even a glimmer of joy might suffice, so long as the tale doesn't end in disappointment, despair, or tragedy, it might qualify as roma… Continue

Yes, local publicity is terrific. International is better! (Think big, the elephant said!) Jean

You're welcome, Jean. And isn't local publicity great? I was a guest speaker at my local Catholic Women's League, and now every Sunday they're asking when my next one is coming out! I also did an interview on a small communityl radio show set up by a family friend, and she wants me to come back when my next book is published!

Cynthia, Ireland, England and Wales sounds like the perfect trip. Who knows, maybe Big John will agree to a similar jaunt. In the meanwhile, let's keep writing. Jean

Hi Jean, I hope you enjoy Rory and Siobhan's story. I plan to order yours as soon as it becomes available on amazon.ca, as soon as I recover from the Christmas bills. We're saving for a trip to Ireland, England and Wales in the summer of '09.

Good luck with The Barefoot Queen.

Happy New Year!

Jean,
I think your pic is very contemporary. It is exaclty what the publishers are doing with all our hero's. Show the abs, cut off the head. :)
Killion is actually Irish. It is my maiden name and work well since I write Scottish Medievals.
Have a Happy New Year.

Thanks, Cynthia--Can you believe this photo? So embarrassing the way "they" cropped it.. The thing is, my chest isn't really up to the publicity. Jean
